An intercom (intercommunication device or talk back is a standalone communication device used within a building, organization, apartments etc functioning independently from the public telephone network. These systems are used for communication within the building and can also be connected to the public network, EPABX systems or access control systems.

Some intercom systems incorporate control of devices such as signal lights and door latches.

Some but not all intercom systems are also attached to security systems, allowing for access control functions within the intercom itself.

Some Basic Intercom Systems include –

  • Master Station or Base Station – These are units that control the complete intercom system. The master station can connect with all the intercom systems under it and also make an announcement such that it reaches to the entire system.

  • Sub Station – Intercom systems that can connect or contact only the master station are Sub Stations. They cannot contact other intercom systems except the master station.

  • Door Station – These systems like substations can only contact the the master station. They are usually fixed at the door of an office or home and are typically weatherproof.

  • Intercom Station – Systems that can initiate contact with all other systems. But unlike Master Station they cannot connect with all systems at the same time and make announcements. They may be permanent, wall mounted or portable systems.
    • Permanent Systems – These are completely made of analogue equipments. Many schools, organizations and household use the permanent intercom systems.
    • Portable intercoms – Portable intercoms are commonly used byspecial event production crews and professional sports
    • Wall Mount Stations – Fixed position systems generally fixed to the wall with flush mounted microphone, push and talk microphone or hand held phone set.
  • Belt Pack – These are closed circuit systems usually worn by an individual on the belt line with a connecting earpiece.

  • Handset – Portable intercom system which does not have a headset connected. Functions like a walkie talkie.

  • Amplifier- An intercom systems main or central component that is responsible for switching or connecting communication paths between master and substations

There are simple house intercom systems developed for collective apartments, different departments of organizations etc. Some are equipped with audio, video and other features and maybe wired or wireless systems.

Intercom systems are available according to user needs, features and preferences.

Security is something very essential and important in today’s world. For beginners this can be initially confusing when looking to decide the right security system with so many available options ranging from CCTV Cameras to home automation and other systems. What features are most important, or more to the point, what features will be most important for your security needs?

Do you want or need security cameras?

  • Video Resolution: Video Resolution is very important to consider while selecting a security camera. The higher the megapixel of the camera the better the resolution and the more clear image and video available. Camera resolution will also factor into how much hard drive space you’ll need to archive your footage. Analog Cameras are less expensive but lack the fine detail that high definition cameras have.

  • Lenses: Most of the cameras that beginners or users buy have static and fixed range lenses. Specific security cameras consist of lenses which have the ability to go from a wide angle to a closer shot, and can be sometimes be controlled though the interface of a DVR or NVR, through a web browser, and others. It is important because it allows you to zoom or magnify certain objects or places. There are also interchangeable lenses available in the market.

  • Infrared: Ensure that your security camera have built in infrared beams around the camera lens which send a strong beam of infrared light. These infrared beams switch on automatically when it gets dark or during low light. It is important as most of the thefts and robberies take place during the night time. It is an essential feature to look for while selecting security cameras.

  • Wireless or Wired: Security cameras are either wireless or wired. The Wireless systems are difficult to install and maintain compared to the wired systems.

Fixing the security camera

  • Field of View: Field of View refers to the width of area a camera can record. This is important because it will affect how many cameras you’ll need and where you should place them.

  • Motion Detection: Security cameras with the motion detection feature send notifications to your mobile or any other device alerting you to suspicious activity.

  • Sound Feature: The sound feature can refer to your camera receiving sound via a microphone, emitting sound via a speaker, or both.

Security is the top priority in today’s world in all types of places. From public places to government buildings to residential areas, security systems are been installed for more safety.

Schools and Educational Institutions are also to be secured like all the other places. A properly installed system of school security systems is important for ensuring safety on school premises. Schools facing challenges such as violence or vandalism on campus find school security cameras an indispensable aid to identifying and resolving issues as they arise.

One of the main reasons of installing security systems in schools is school violence. There is always some sort of violence occurring in schools these days and we never know when something could happen in a school in your community. Therefore, it is essential to do everything that you can to make sure that the schools in your area are as safe as possible.

There are many ways of securing and ensuring the safety of students in schools which include –

  • Security Surveillance Cameras can be installed in public areas like cafeterias, administrative offices, gymnasiums, outdoor playgrounds, sports fields and corridors. Cameras can also catch thieves, vandals, and bullies in the act, allowing the school to positively identify all parties involved and see exactly what happened.
  • Cameras mounted near main entrances and in administrative offices can help you record each visitor as they enter and exit your school. Cameras near exits can also help reduce truancy.
  • Fixed cameras can be strategically placed in order to protect valuables like computers, sound equipment, trophies and books.Outdoor surveillance cameras in parking lots can help protect older students and staff when leaving school late or arriving early. These cameras can also discourage break-ins and vandalism during school hours.
  • While school surveillance cameras are generally beneficial, systems are constantly under risk of vandalism/breaking. Students and staff should remain diligent of their security and act responsibly during an emergency.

Video surveillance systems are also useful tools when creating your visitor management system.

  • The most common use of a school video surveillance system is to increase student and staff safety. Prominently placed cameras warn students and staff that they may be monitored, which can deter bad behavior.
  • Video surveillance systems are also useful tools when creating your visitor management system.

  • One problem many schools continually struggle with is proper access control for visitors. By implementing school security cameras at entrance doors, you can help your administrative staff monitor visitors and make sure they are properly signed in, while still allowing your students to move freely around the campus.

Safeguarding the well being of all students and staff is a primary concern for schools today.

Access Control Systems is a mechanism that manages access through the authorization or revocation of rights to physical or logical assets within an organization. It is also known as a security technique that can be used to regulate who or what can view or use resources in a computing environment.

Over the years, access control systems have become more and more sophisticated. Today, the term “access control system” most often refers to a computer-based, electronic card access control system. The electronic card access control system uses a special “access card”, rather than a brass key, to permit access into the secured area.

Access control systems perform authorization identification, authentication, access approval, and accountability of entities through login credentials including passwords, personal identification numbers (PINs), biometric scans, and physical or electronic keys.

The Bio metric Access Control System is a professional fingerprint access and time attendance control system. It uses fingerprint instead of card system for access. This can be widely used in confidential places for its easy installation and high security. It’s the best choice for you today, to secure your life tomorrow.

Components of an Access Control System –

  • Access Cards – Access card are like electronic key cards which are used gain access through a particular place secured by the access control system. Each card has a unique code and is the size of a standard credit card.
  • Card Readers – Card readers are devices which are installed by the side of the door and electronically read the access cards.

Access Control System

  • Access Control Keypads – Access Control keypads are used in place or in addition of card readers. In order to gain access the user would have to enter a numeric code for entry. If used in addition of card readers both the access card and the numeric code is required for access.
  • Electric Lock Hardware – Electric lock hardware is the equipment that is used to electrically lock and unlock each door that is controlled by the access control system.
  • Access Control Field Panels – These panels control all the devices including card readers, electric lock hardware, and other access control devices.  The access control field panels are used to process access control activity at the building level.

In terms of physical security, security access control systems keep unauthorized people out of secure areas by restricting entry. Access control systems give organizations top of the line security for their infrastructure and employees which explains its growing importance and popularity.

EPABX System is a multiple telephone system within an enterprise that switches the calls inside the local lines, with all the users to share a certain number of external phone lines. They are also known as intercom systems and are available with different features according to requirements.

Routing the incoming and outgoing external and internal calls in a systematic way in an organization is the main purpose of installing an EPABX System.

An EPABX System allows you to talk to a maximum of 10 people in a conference call using a single line.

These systems are very necessary and useful for business organizations. EPABX Systems make the managing of internal and external telephone calls within an office easy. The systems can enable the users to do multiple jobs like call switching, get important messages, manage a lot number of calls and monitor telephone usage all at the same time. They are usually charge based on features and are cost effective as providing external telephone lines to every employee can be avoided.
Improvement in technology has led to EPABX with many advanced features such as external call forwarding, direct inward dialing, extension wise usage limits, call pickup and call splitting.

The common types of EPABX Systems include Mobile Systems, Hosted Systems, IP Systems and Wireless EPABX Systems.
Features of EPABX Systems:

Some of the features of an advanced EPABX System include:

  • Internal office communication is made easy with EPABX Systems. All you need to do is dial the extension number which is not more than four digits making it easy to remember.

Alarm Systems are systems designed to detect unauthorized entry like that of burglary, property damage, intruders as well as personal protection – into a building or area. Intruders need only a weak spot in security for striking. Security Alarms is to ensure that your system is user-friendly, simple, trouble free and effective at protecting your business, employees, visitors, information and assets.

A single loop hole is all that is needed. So installing the right alarm system is of utmost importance.

Alarm Systems can be of many types according to the purpose of use. Some systems satisfying more than one purpose like that of combination systems provide fire and intrusion protection. Alarm systems can also be combined with the CCTV Surveillance systems, Access Control Systems and the Home Automation System for more security.  Most people interact with alarms on a daily basis and it is important to depend upon systems that are both reliable and well suited to specific needs.

Before installing the alarm system the site should be assessed completely and the areas that are considered to be of risk for intrusion should then be built with alarm and security systems around them.

Components of an Alarm System

Alarm systems are made up of several components which include –

  • Control panel – It is the central control unit of the system. It receives transmissions from sensors and communicates data to the central monitoring station. The battery is located inside the control panel, which backs up the system if your power is shut down.

  • Key fobs It is a device used to remotely arm and disarm the system. Keypads are units that can be installed throughout your home to provide easy-to-use access to your panel. By typing in your personal code and the correct buttons, you can arm and disarm your security system quickly.
  • Motion detectors –Detect movement in targeted areas. Motion detectors are devices inside the home which trigger an alarm when something moves into its path.
  • Smoke detectors – Smoke detectors detect smoke in case of fire and in turn, dispatch the fire department to your home.
  • Glass break detectors – Also known as audio detectors, glass break detectors are normally installed in rooms with many fixed windows, if the window is broken, the shattering glass sound will set off the alarm.
  • Panic buttons – Used to request immediate help in case of an emergency.
  • Touch pads –Used for diagnostic operations, as well as to activate and deactivate alarms
  • Sirens –Used to create loud acoustic sounds to alert.
  • Video monitoring (CCTV cameras) –Used to create a video link with the monitoring team
  • Window and door sensors –Used to sense movements and break ins via windows and doors

Wired and Wireless Alarm Systems

Wireless Systems use individual sensors which are installed throughout the home and communicate wirelessly to the central control panel using radio frequency technology.

Hard wired Alarm Systems connect the sensors to the central control panel using a network of wires which are hidden within the wall and floors.

Wireless Systems and hard wired Systems both have their pros and cons. Wireless systems are easy to install. It may take hardly six to seven hours for their installation. Whereas hardwired systems may take two days for their installation. The maintenance costs of wireless systems are more compared to that of hardwired systems as a change of battery every 3 years is necessary for wireless system. Hard wired systems do not run on batteries so there is no battery replacement costs there. If you ever think of expanding your apartment or business area all you need to do is add extra sensors to expand your systems coverage area in case of Wireless Systems. But adding an additional sensor to the Wired System is a lot more difficult.

Wireless Systems are suitable for smaller and large scale houses or apartments and also for small or medium scale commercial projects. Hard Wired Systems are suitable for large scale commercial buildings, factories and offices.

Alarm system will lessen or definitely decrease our chances of intruders and thieves from getting into our houses which is why it is of utmost importance.
